Heading back to work really got me thinking about ability and how able I am to manage my Epilepsy, manage my household, take care of a 5-year-old and…work.

Did I lose my job because of my Epilepsy? I hear and read that people feel they have lost their employment due to their seizures, and it’s something I have considered for months and months. Could they have? Would they have? Was it my seizures that led them to tell me there was no longer a spot for me?

Why won’t people talk about Epilepsy? Once they hear about the diagnosis, if they find out you might be on course for a major brain surgery…why do they all of a sudden tune you out?

It’s a question that will become more and more intense as time goes on. And, as we sink deeper into this recession, those of us with Epilepsy have more to grapple with: do we tell our employer about our Epilepsy.
